Temporary Retirement Visa:
A foothold for senior investors

How to qualify for a Temporary Retirement Visa

There’s a way in to New Zealand for older investors who are over 66 years of age. The NZ Government offers a temporary retirement visa that lets you stay in New Zealand for up to two years. You’ll need to have at least NZD 750,000 to invest in New Zealand, plus you’ll need access to an additional half million to show you can support your two-year stay.

The NZ government will also require proof of an annual income of NZD 60,000, but this can be a combined income if you’re coming in with a spouse or partner. The visa does not allow you to bring any dependent children along with you.

With everything in place at your end, you can expect the Temporary Retirement Visa to take about three weeks to process.

Opening the doors to New Zealand

Once you’ve shown proof that you’ve got the investment capital, access to living funds and can meet income, health and character standards, the Temporary Retirement Visa will allow you to stay in New Zealand for two years. Your spouse or partner can be included in your application if you can show that your relationship is genuine and stable.

Under the Temporary Retirement Visa, you’ll be free to travel in and out of New Zealand without restriction, and, should you wish to stay longer, this is the time to partner with Avancier Legal to explore possible pathways into permanent residence.
