Active Investor Plus (AIP) Resident Visa Programme

The government has reshaped the programme to be more inclusive, offering a balanced approach that caters to both ambitious investors and prudent wealth builders. This visa lets you live, work and study in New Zealand. You may include your partner and dependent children, aged 24 and younger, in your application. By removing the English language requirement, the programme is more accessible to a wider pool of global investors.

The Growth Category

For those seeking a direct, high-impact investment route, this visa has the following requirements:

  • NZD 5 million investment in approved managed funds and/or direct investments;
  • 21 days minimum residency over a three-year period; and
  • A streamlined pathway that rewards those willing to take on greater investment risk with a lower capital requirement.

The Balanced Category

For those who prefer diversification and a long-term stability investment route, this visa has the following requirements:

  • NZD 10 million investment across a range of assets, including:
  • Bonds (government, local government, and corporate);
  • Listed equities and philanthropy;
  • Property development (residential, commercial, and industrial); and
  • Growth Category investments (approved managed funds and direct investments);
  • 105 days minimum residency over a five-year period; and
  • A flexible structure that allows for reduced residency obligations for those making additional investments.

For investors who increase their commitment amount, residency requirements can be further reduced, with up to 42 fewer days required.

Entrepreneur Visa

  • The Entrepreneur Work Visa offers a pathway towards residency for those who successfully establish and operate their business in New Zealand. If you meet the criteria for successfully operating the business and maintain your investment, you can apply for the Entrepreneur Residence Visa and settle in New Zealand long term.
  • If you’re an experienced businessperson another option is to buy a business in New Zealand, the Entrepreneur Work Visa offers a pathway to live and work here while contributing to the country’s economy. This visa allows you to run your own business and is designed to attract individuals with strong business acumen, capital to invest, and innovative ideas that support New Zealand’s growth.

Temporary Retirement Resident Visa

  • This visa allows you to live in New Zealand for up to two years and gives you the flexibility to travel in and out of the country during that time. You may also include your partner in your application, While you are here, you can invest in approved assets and even explore potential pathways to permanent residency.
  • However, there are some limitations to be aware of. You cannot include dependent children in your application, and you must not spend more than six consecutive months outside New Zealand within any 12 month period.
